MT. VERNON (WMIX) – Mt. Vernon Police have arrested a 45-year-old man wanted on a warrant accusing him of fleeing sentencing in a felony domestic battery case.

An MVPD officer reportedly spotted David Robinson outside his home Wednesday in the 800 block of Taylor in Mt. Vernon and was aware of a Jefferson County warrant charging Robinson with Violation of Bail Bond.

Upon seeing the officer, Robinson reportedly fled into his home. Additional officers arrived on scene and made entry to the home.

While searching the home for Robinson, officers saw evidence that someone had entered into a crawlspace under the home from a basement access panel.

Officers began removing the underpinning on the home until they could see him under the front of the home. Robinson complied when officers ordered him to crawl back out of the crawlspace.

Robinson was taken into custody on the Jefferson County warrant and additionally charged with Resisting/Obstructing Arrest.

The warrant was issued last week when Robinson failed to turn himself in to begin serving a prison sentence that had been handed down in October 2022, when he filed an open plea of guilty to a charge of Class 4 felony domestic battery.

He was released with a date to turn himself in to begin serving his four-year prison sentence but failed to appear.

Robinson was transported to the Jefferson County Jail pending transportation to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
