MARION – Students at Marion’s Jefferson Elementary School and Jefferson Pre-K will be in class today after classes were called off at the school Friday due to a woman crashing her car through the school library and a classroom late Thursday night.
According to Jefferson Elementary School Principal Jessica Corzine, the library and the one affected classroom will be blocked off for reconstruction. You are asked to avoid the construction area in front of the school. Corzine thanked the Marion Fire Department, Police Department, Water Department and the various other work crews for their quick and thorough response to this situation.
Marion Police responded to Jefferson Elementary around 11 p.m. Thursday and saw that a white Dodge Charger had crashed into the south side of the school and was sitting inside the library. No one was in the school when the crash occurred.
The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Tiffany P. Meller of Marion, was issued citations for Underage Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, Zero Tolerance, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Disregarding a Traffic Control Device, No Valid License, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Meller was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center for treatment.
