According to a press release from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff’s office was alerted to a pursuit by officers with the West Frankfort Police Department which had entered northern Williamson County and who subsequently lost sight of the suspect vehicle.

At 10:50 p.m. Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies located the motorcycle in Pittsburg and attempted to make contact with the driver who is known to area law enforcement due to extensive prior contact and a history of fleeing from police.

The driver, identified as Dennis W. Hanson of Carterville, failed to yield when deputies attempted to stop him. Hanson then fled northbound from Pittsburg at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Hanson traveled westbound on Corinth Road to Johnston City where he entered the northbound lanes of I-57 reaching speeds in excess of 120 mph. He continued northbound on I-57 for 60 miles until exiting at Salem. Hanson then continued westbound on State Route 50 traveling 10 more miles to Sandoval where he was ultimately taken into custody having led multiple patrol vehicles on a 100-mile pursuit at high rates of speed while operating the motorcycle in a reckless manner.

Hanson was taken into custody by pursuing Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies and taken to the Williamson County Jail on two outstanding warrants – one out of Franklin County for Aggravated DU with a $10,000 bond and a separate Williamson County warrant for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Driving While License Suspended, Resisting a Peace Officer, and numerous traffic violations.

Hanson is currently being held in the Williamson County Jail.
