According to a Carmi Police Report, officers responded Wednesday to the area of 726 Shipley Street to an active threat and someone throwing things at the home.

The White County Sheriff’s Office was busy with a felony traffic stop arrest at the time and Carmi Police responded.

Upon arrival of one officer, suspects could be seen running south toward Summit Street with flashlights. Another officer was approaching South Summit and witnessed a vehicle leaving that area at a high rate of speed and running a stop sign. The officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle and after witnessing the suspect vehicle continuing to accelerate and disobey stop signs initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle was now westbound on Stewart Street at this time and disobeyed stop signs while still accelerating. The vehicle continued out Stewart Street and was not able to maneuver the corner onto County Road 1000 East and struck a ditch bank causing debris to fly out of the bed of the truck and into the roadway and yard. The suspect vehicle continued northbound on 1000 East. The officer attempted to miss the items in the roadway as well as maneuver the corner and applied the brakes causing him to lose traction and leave the roadway and into the ditch and into the yard. The officer was able to gain control of the vehicle and continue on as the suspect vehicle then pulled into the ditch on the east side of the roadway a few hundred yards down the road. At that time two juvenile suspects fled the truck on foot and into the cemetery.

McKay was driving the truck. He was taken into custody. Holloman was in the front passenger seat. She was later taken into custody as well. There were two remaining juveniles inside the vehicle and the two juveniles that fled were later identified. The juveniles were released to parents and caregivers and a DCFS Hotline report was made.

The White County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Besides this incident, the sheriff’s office also took a signed complaint from the resident at 726 Shipley St. for Theft and Disorderly Conduct. Additional charges are expected regarding that report.
