MARION – The use of an Apple AirTag led to the arrest of a woman for burglary Friday afternoon in Williamson County.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Christie N. Schultz was cited for burglary and lodged in the Williamson County Jail.

Just after noon Friday, the sheriff’s office received a report of a burglary in the 1500 block of Route 37 in Marion. The victim reported that two Bostitch nail guns and a dish sponge were stolen from the home.

The owner, who has been remodeling the home, told deputies he had a suspicion that somebody had been coming into the abandoned property during the past week.

Deputies discovered the homeowner had hidden Apple AirTags inside some of the stolen items.

Photos of a woman inside the home were captured by a trail camera previously hidden in the home by the owner.

Utilizing AirTag tracking information provided by the homeowner, sheriff’s investigators responded to a home on South Third Street in Marion.

Upon arrival investigators saw a Bostitch tool box sitting on the dash of a vehicle in the driveway.

The victim was contacted and triggered the AirTag to make an audible sound which investigators could hear emitting from inside the vehicle.

A woman, identified as Christie N. Schultz, came out of the home. Schultz matched the description of the woman from the trail camera images.

Schultz said the vehicle belonged to her, she obtained the tool in the vehicle from an abandoned home, and that she took one of the stolen tools into her home.

Investigators recovered two Bostitch nail guns and a dish sponge.

Schultz was arrested and cited for Burglary. She was taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail.

The stolen items were returned to their rightful owner.
