CARMI – A Harrisburg man was cited for reckless driving, improper display of registration and littering following an incident Saturday at Carmi Fest in Carmi.

According to the Carmi Police Department, 68-year-old Leonard W. Gauthier, Jr. was refused access to the event due to attempting to bring a cooler in.

Instead of taking the cooler back to the vehicle, Gauthier and his wife opted to leave the event angry. Gauthier ripped the tickets and scattered them about the ground as he returned to his vehicle. Once in the vehicle, Gauthier disobeyed those directing traffic and left at a high rate of speed nearly hitting three vehicles head-on before swerving into the walk path marked with safety cones and ran over 12 cones with four remaining stuck under his vehicle.

Gauthier refused the stop and was later stopped east of Enfield intersection. He was then cited with the offense we mentioned at the beginning of this story and released.
