MARION – The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says it began receiving calls from residents Wednesday reporting the receipt of fraudulent calls claiming to be from the sheriff’s office.

During these recent calls, the caller has left a message advising citizens they have missed a court date and requests a return call.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich says the sheriff’s office does not make these types of calls, never asks for personal information over the phone, never solicits money over the phone, and does not require monetary payment to avoid being arrested. These types of calls attempt to prey on unsuspecting citizens by creating panic and concern.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the source of these calls and will take all steps available to identify the person or persons responsible.

If you receive one of these fraudulent calls or any call from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office which you question the legitimacy, call 618-997-6541.
