MCLEANSBORO – Bobby Lee Akins, Jr., 60, of McLeansboro, IL, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. Bobby was born on April 7, 1965, in Herrin, IL, to Bobby Akins Sr. and Betty Ruth (Conroy) Akins. In March of 2001, he met the love of his life, Betty Wood, and they were married on August 8, 2008. She survives.
Bobby was self-employed and worked as a roofer. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, watching football, and working with R/C cars. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Betty (Wood) Akins; his mother, Betty Ruth (Conroy) Akins; three sons: Dylan (Michaela) Cottonaro, Brandon Cottonaro, and Dalton (Olivia) Akins; a daughter, Hannah (Damian) Parker; six grandchildren: Walker Lee Cottonaro, Jude Michael Cottonaro, Rynn Anne Cottonaro, Aurora Sweetin, Oakley Alan Parker, and Jase Lee Parker; a brother, Jerry Ray Akins; mother-in-law, Patti Wood; uncle and aunt, Carrold and Dorothy Atterberry; a niece, Jenna Akins; two nephews, Jeremy Akins and Tyler Akins; two children from a previous marriage, Danieelle and Kyle; his beloved pet dog, Cooper; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Akins Sr.; grandparents Paradine and Roland Conroy; grandparents Anna Wagley and Herman O. Akins; and father-in-law, Fred Wood.
A graveside funeral service for Bobby Lee Akins Jr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro, with Pastor Joel Vancil officiating. Those attending are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
