MURPHYSBORO – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving someone identifying himself as “Sgt. Cory Foster” who is demanding payment for an arrest warrant that has been issued for failing to appear to a court summons.
The caller says “the fine” can be paid over the phone. The calls seem to be coming from several spoofed phone numbers showing a 618 area code.
The sheriff’s office doesn’t call residents demanding payment and doesn’t give out warrant information over the phone.
If you receive this call, call the sheriff’s office at 618-684-2177.
