THOMPSONVILLE – C. L. Carlile, 91, of Thompsonville, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 1:28 p.m.
He was born on May 5, 1934, to Roscoe and Lovell Carlile.
C. L. married Phyllis (Roach) Carlile on March 2, 1954. They shared 71 wonderful years together and always had deep love for one another.
C. L. and Phyllis were blessed with three children: Cathy (Speck) Fletcher, Kenton (Jane) Carlile, and Christy (Rob) Chrostoski. They have nine grandchildren: Wade (Becky) Fletcher, K.C. (Casey) Carlile, Whitney (Mike) Hammond, Devin Carlile, Zane Carlile, Emma Carlile, Robbie (Jason) Roberts, and Christopher Chrostoski. They have 16 great-grandchildren: Blaine Oglesby, Eran Oglesby-Angleton, Graham Finnie, Codie Finnie, Madison Fletcher, Megan Fletcher, Mason Fletcher, Connor Carlile, Wyatt Carlile, Josie Carlile, Macayla Blevins, Colton Hammond, Chloe Hammond, Gabrielle Roberts, Damien Roberts, and Christina Chrostoski. They are also survived by three great-great-grandchildren: Elliott Angleton, Avery Williams, and Westin Smith.
C. L. is survived by his wife, Phyllis; their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman (Jean) Carlile; sisters-in-law: Bette (Bill) Lambert, Artie (Katie) Roach, Marla (Keith) Patten; and brother-in-law, Jim Moss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Lovell Carlile; parents-in-law, Lavern and Laura Sue Roach; and sisters- and brothers-in-law: Ken (June) Roach, Marilyn Moss, Sharon (Jim) Pedigo, and Beverly (Nick) Rosoho.
Besides his love for family, C. L. had a lifelong passion for cattle. He and Phyllis operated a dairy farm for many years and proudly showed registered Brown Swiss cattle at the state and county levels. He enjoyed attending cattle auctions and buying and selling livestock. Together, he and Phyllis also served as custodians at Thompsonville Grade School for 20 years. C. L. lived a long and happy life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Pastor Wade Finney officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
