FRANKLIN COUNTY – Nathan Lewis was born January 1, 1934, to Lloyd and Alberta (Drake) Lewis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ardeth Bruno; and aunt, Fern Hudson.

Nathan is survived by his brother-in-law, Fred Bruno; nieces, Janie Bruno and Allison (Ivan) Van Havre of Texas; cousins, John D. and Mary Ellen Aiken of Benton, IL, and Gale Dawson of Carterville, IL; and friend, Margie Shaw.

He graduated in 1952 from Frankfort Community High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953–1961, achieving the rank of SP4–Electrician and serving in the Korean War, where he received the United Nations, Presidential, and numerous additional service medals. He was honorably discharged.

His faith in Jesus was of the utmost importance to him. He held dual citizenship in both Israel and the United States and was employed in both countries. He lived in Jerusalem for more than 50 years and served eight years in the Israeli Army. He was frequently asked to speak at universities and churches about his lifelong history and love of Israel. He loved the beauty of the country and its people and always said his heart was there.

Nathan found great joy in playing the guitar and singing, and he loved his Bible studies and fellowship with family and friends. He was a major foodie who never turned down a meal, and holidays were his favorite time with family.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Pastor Mike Cash officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow in Masonic & Odd fellows Cemetery in Benton, Illinois.
