MCLEANSBORO – With deep love and gratitude for his life, we remember Dennis Oestringer, who peacefully passed away in his home on November 30, 2025.
Dennis was born on August 28, 1947, to Raymond Oestringer and Delores Long. Throughout his life, Dennis had a warm and gentle spirit that touched every person he met. He found joy in collecting yarn and took great pride in his watches, hats, and sunglasses. Though blind and deaf, his world was filled with music—he was passionate about playing the organ and “listening” to his favorite melodies through his headphones.
Dennis attended SOF Lincoln State School in Lincoln, IL, from January 1, 1955, to June 1, 1977. He then spent a year at Choate Developmental Center in Anna, IL. From 1978 to 1980, Dennis continued his education at the Helen Keller Center for the Blind and Deaf in New York City. It was there he learned to play the organ, an experience that sparked a lifelong passion.
In 1996, Dennis made his home at Pixel Place CILA in McLeansboro, IL, where he lived for the remainder of his years. While there, he attended the Career Development Center in Fairfield, IL, before transferring to Trade Industries in McLeansboro in 2020, where he worked until his retirement in 2024.
Anyone who met Dennis was immediately welcomed as his friend. His kindness, joy, and gentle presence made him a cherished part of every community he joined. He is lovingly survived by his family at Pixel Place, who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Dale Community Church in Dale, IL, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. All who knew and loved Dennis are welcome to attend.
Dennis’s memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
