SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – It’s going to be very cold across our region this weekend as a very strong cold front will bring sharply colder temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.
Forecasters say wind chill values may fall below zero early Sunday. Overnight lows in the single digits are forecast for both Saturday and Sunday night.
To keep your home safe, check your heating systems and carbon monoxide detectors, keep a trickle of water running to prevent frozen pipes, use space heaters safely keeping them away from flammables and have an emergency kit with blankets, flashlights, food and water.
If you have to be outdoors, dress in layers, cover all exposed skin, limit your time outdoors especially for children and the elderly, and stay dry because wet clothing increases heat loss.
