BENTON – David B. Odom, known as “Boot,” 75, of Benton, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, following a lengthy battle with dementia.

He was born July 8, 1950, to Raymond and Genevieve (Browning) Odom. He married Carolyn Rich on March 7, 1975, and she survives.

Odom was a lifelong businessman who took pride in building a business he loved. He enjoyed time with his family, watching hummingbirds, spending time with his dog, Buddy, driving fast cars, playing pool and gardening. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help others.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Odom of Benton; a son, Shawn Craig (Brook) of Benton; a daughter, Shalyn Sargeant (Chris) of Vincennes, Indiana; grandsons, Joey Craig and Gabe Craig, both of Benton, and Maddox Sargeant of Vincennes; a brother, Danny Odom of Benton; a brother-in-law, Dennis Rich (Angie) of West Frankfort; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn Keller; a brother, Larry Odom; his father-in-law, Byrd Rich; his mother-in-law, Frieda Rich; a family friend, Troy Doty; and his beloved dogs, Emily and Kailea Mae.

Arrangements are entrusted to Pate Funeral Home and Crematory in Benton.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at Grace Awakening Church, located at 313 N. McLeansboro St., in Benton, with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. A meal for family and friends will follow in the church basement.

Per his wishes, cremation will take place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Residential Hospice and will be accepted at the church or Pate Funeral Home.
