BENTON — Valerie Jean Mabry Kane, 69, of Benton died Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., surrounded by family.

She was born Nov. 24, 1956, in Marion to Gene and Josephine “Pippi” Kane. She married Calvin “Larry” Mabry on July 23, 1977, and he survives.

Mabry worked for more than 30 years as a pharmacy technician at Kimmel Chaplain Pharmacy, where she was known by coworkers and customers for her kindness and dedication. After retiring, she enjoyed crafting and caring for plants and spending time with her family. She took pride in her roles as wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Calvin Mabry of Benton; a daughter, Brea Leigh (Cliff) Thomas; two grandchildren, Alivia and Avery Thomas; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Pam Mabry; a nephew, Brian (Steph) Mabry and their daughter, Desi; nieces Sarah Kane and Louren Kane; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mitch Kane.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Pate Funeral Home and Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Burial will be in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Pate Funeral Home and Crematory, 301 S. Main St., Benton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Benton Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry and will be accepted at the funeral home.
