BELLE RIVE – Lawrence E. Unfried, 78, of Belle Rive, Illinois, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Linda White Hospice in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born June 29, 1947, in McLeansboro, Illinois, to Joseph and Frances Mary (Baumann) Unfried. He married Joanne Catherine Marski on Aug. 17, 1968, and she survives.

Larry was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in McLeansboro. He was a retired teacher and enjoyed bike riding, cross-country skiing, antiquing and “junking,” and putting together picture puzzles.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Unfried; a daughter, Amy Catherine Unfried of Crainville, Illinois; and sisters: Evalena Theresa Unfried of McLeansboro, Leona Pauline Unfried of Alto, Michigan, and Marian Eileen Kiefer of Belle Rive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Joseph Eugene Unfried.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. Clement Catholic Cemetery in McLeansboro. The Rev. Tom Barrett will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the National Muscular Dystrophy Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
