MCLEANSBORO – Anita Mitchell, 73, of McLeansboro, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Aug. 31, 1952, in Emma, Illinois, the daughter of Clyde Sanders and Clarella (Shoppell) Sanders.
Mitchell worked as a certified nursing assistant. She enjoyed playing solitaire and watching her grandchildren participate in sports and other activities.
Survivors include three daughters: Bobbie Williams and husband Gary of McLeansboro, Kerri McKnight of Carmi, and Joni Bowles of Vienna; one brother, Phillip Bowles of Mount Vernon; and six grandchildren: Isaac and Izabell Williams, Laci Huffstutler, Bryce McKnight, Chase Veach and Zachery Bowles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Paige Lee Veach; and three sisters.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, with the funeral service beginning at noon. The Rev. Jason Moore will officiate. Burial will follow at Big Prairie Cemetery in Epworth.
The Harre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
