SCHELLER – George L. Spotanski, 93, of Scheller, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Helia Healthcare in Benton.
He was born March 30, 1932, in Sesser to Roman and Mary (Basso) Spotanski. He married Wanda Lou Keller, and they shared nearly 75 years of marriage.
Survivors include three children: Karen Miller of McLeansboro, Wayne Spotanski of Scheller and Laura Page of Scheller; seven grandchildren: Stacy Webb, Cassie Magsig, Jeremy Spotanski, Adreanna Harvey, Vanessa Leek, Mandi Whitlow and Cody Levanti; and 13 great-grandchildren: Dalton, Dacey, Andrew, Hazel, Ransom, Presleigh, Hendrix, Lennox, M.J., Mavrick, Kayla, Lane and Bronx.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter, Mary Susan Spotanski; and a brother, Leonard Spotanski.
Spotanski was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked in construction and coal mining and was also a farmer who raised cattle. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sesser, where he served as a deacon for nearly 50 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly deer hunting.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Sesser, with the Rev. Chris Hottensen officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.
