CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police are investigating three separate reports of shots fired over the weekend.
Officers were sent to the 500 block of South Beverage around 7:15 Saturday night following reports of multiple gunshots and found several shell casings.
Then at 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of North Bridge Street after receiving a report of gunfire and found several bullet strikes to an unoccupied home and spent shell casings just north of the home.
Then just after 1 a.m. Sunday, officers were sent back to the area of the 500 block of South Beverage for a report of shots fired, where multiple callers reported hearing gunfire. Three homes sustained bullet strikes.
During their investigation, detectives learned that a 14-year-old male juvenile had been captured on surveillance video at a local business stealing 9mm ammunition. Evidence recovered from the shooting scenes was consistent with the stolen ammunition.
The investigation then led to the identification of two 14-year-old male juveniles as suspects in all three shootings. Both juveniles were taken into custody on charges of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. One of the juveniles was additionally charged with Retail Theft.
The investigation determined that the home struck in the 600 block of North Bridge Street and one home in the 500 block of South Beverage Street are addresses of persons with whom the juveniles had previously been in a dispute with over stolen property.
Both juveniles were released to their guardians pending a court hearing. There have been no reported injuries from any of these incidents.
