BENTON – Mrs. Shirley Ann Chamness, 83, of Benton, passed away at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Stonebridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Benton.
Shirley was born March 28, 1943, in Benton, the daughter of Lena Niblett. She married Lyndell Vernell Chamness on July 7, 1967, and they shared 54 years of marriage until his death on September 16, 2021.
She was a homemaker and a member of West City Church of God. Shirley enjoyed planting flowers and teaching Sunday school to young children.
Surviving are two children:
- Tina Harpool and husband Kevin of Benton
- Keith Chamness and wife Misty of Benton
Grandchildren:
- Brittany Elliott and husband Eric of Edwardsville
- Brison Harpool and wife Crystal of Rancho Cucamonga, CA
- Sydney Chamness of West Frankfort
- Dillan Chamness and wife Katelyn of Mt. Vernon
- Tyler Chamness and fiancée Aymee of Benton
- Devon Despotopulos of Benton
She was preceded in death by her mother, her husband, one son, (Kevin Lee Chamness); a sister, and a brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to West City Church of God and will be accepted at the service.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Leffler Funeral Home in Benton, with Rev. Harol Whitlock officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
