CARMI – Everett “Deon” Carr, 82, of Carmi, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, Illinois. He was born on October 21, 1943, in McLeansboro to George Colene Carr and Myrtle (Jacobs) Carr. On January 9, 1965, he married Naomi Ruth (Rankin) Carr, who preceded him in death on January 26, 2015.

Deon worked as a welder for Joy Manufacturing in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was an avid firearm and knife collector. He also enjoyed fishing, going to casinos, and working on cars. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Deon is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Larry) Pretz of Harrisburg, Illinois; his son, Bryce Carr of McLeansboro, Illinois; four grandchildren: John Cole of Harrisburg, Illinois, Christina Cole of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Kyle (Danielle) Rankin of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and Alex (Priscilla) Blessing of Elkville, Illinois; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and his neighbor and “best buddy,” Ruth Weaver of Carmi, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle Carr; his wife, Naomi Ruth Carr; his son, Keith Rankin; his grandson, Michael Cole; and his brother, Bob Carr.

Funeral services for Everett “Deon” Carr will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2025, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, Illinois, with Reverend Dr. Ken Cook officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Interment will follow the funeral service Monday at Springer Cemetery in Beaver Creek Township in Hamilton County, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to assist with final expenses may be made to Gholson Funeral Home and will be accepted at the funeral home.
