CARBONDALE – A 57-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle early New Year’s Day morning in the 300 block of East Walnut Street in Carbondale.

According to Carbondale Police, the pedestrian entered the roadway without regard to oncoming traffic and was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries. An ambulance took the victim to the emergency room for treatment and remains in guarded condition. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative.

Police continue to investigate.
