MCLEANSBORO – Margaret Ann “Marge” McGill Knight, 82, of McLeansboro, Ill., died Jan. 14, 2026, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

She was born Jan. 8, 1944, to Charles H. and Ruth McGill. She married Dalton Knight on Feb. 13, 1965. After their marriage, the couple joined her father in raising Black Angus cattle and farming grain at Fair Acres Farm. They continued farming with their family until retiring in 2011. Knight hauled countless loads of grain to the Broughton and Dale elevators and was known for keeping the roads busy during harvest.

Knight enjoyed spending time with her family, attending her grandchildren’s activities and following the Hamilton County Foxes. She and her husband rarely missed a Foxes basketball game, and even after suffering a stroke in 2022, her family took her to games as often as possible. She liked staying active and, with the help of caretakers Nikki Lynch and Cande Mitchell, enjoyed many outings, ice cream treats, weekly Friday hair appointments and lunches at Main Street with her close friend, Kay Woodrow.

She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and later attended Freedom Baptist Church and New Prospect Baptist Church with her family. She had also attended Hickory Hill Baptist Church.

Knight was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and “Granny” to many.

Survivors include two daughters and a son: Tonyia (Mike) Neal, Teresa (Larry) Bayler and Jamie (Stephanie) Knight; grandchildren: Zack (Cady) Bayler, Shelby (Dylan) White, and Faith, Nevaeh and Andrew Knight; great-grandchildren: Zoe and Zane Bayler and Baby White, expected in March; two sisters; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her parents-in-law; a brother, James; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Hamson and the Rev. Jason Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton.

Memorials may be made, in lieu of flowers, to East Side PTO, Foxesfans.net or Hamilton County Foxes Athletics and will be accepted at the funeral home.
