WEST FRANKFORT – Mary Manis, 93, of West Frankfort died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at Shawnee Senior Living in Herrin.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Brother Lloyd Whittaker officiating. Burial will be in Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mary was born Aug. 15, 1932, in Elgin, Illinois, to Robert and Angela Shirley. She married Charles Manis on Aug. 9, 1952, and he preceded her in death in 2015.

A talented artisan, Mary designed and crafted primitive Santas and various other creations. She held more than a dozen patents for her designs, and her artwork was shipped throughout the United States. She was a frequent participant in regional craft fairs. Mary took great pride in the history and upkeep of her home on Main Street in “the Heights.” She especially loved decorating for the holidays and hosting her family every Christmas Eve.

In the 1980s, Mary worked for Inland Steel Coal Co. Mine No. 2 in McLeansboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; brother, Robert Shirley; two granddaughters, Angela Pollard and Liza Schooneart; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include three sons, Charles (Georgeen) Manis Jr., Bob (Janice) Manis and Bill (Trudy) Manis; nine grandchildren, Jenny Manis, Amanda Ingram, Bill Pollard, Matt (Kayla) Manis, Molly Manis, Jill (Josh) Hefner, Julie (Blake) Weber, Jeff (Lynel) Willis and Clint (Andi) Willis; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruce Shirley; and many nieces and nephews.
