MURPHYSBORO – The Jackson County Health Department says this year’s Shred/Med/Sharps and More events are set for Saturday, April 25, and Saturday, September 26, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the health department on Health Department Road in Murphysboro. The event will happen rain or shine.
You are invited to participate in a unique event that includes a drug takeback, confidential document shredding services, collection of CFL and LED light bulbs, and household batteries, including alkaline. The medical sharps disposal kiosk will be accessible for drop-off and free sharps collection containers will be available at no cost, upon request.
In addition to collection activities, the events will serve as host to a “Nourish Your Neighbor” healthy foods drive. Donations of nonperishable healthy food items will be accepted.
In 2025, the food drives collected nearly 350 lbs. of nutritious foods which were donated to help fight food insecurity and improve health outcomes in Jackson County.
To participate, residents can register online at www.jchdonline.org or call 618-684-3143 ext. 128 to schedule an appointment drop-off time.
