MARION – It seems the man who recently stole a backhoe and drove it 10 miles to Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois in Marion to catch a flight has found himself in trouble not only with law enforcement in Williamson County but now in Nevada too.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Timothy J. Baggott of Carbondale stole the backhoe from a job site at the intersection of Illinois 13 and Spillway Road on May 18 and drove it to the airport. He was charged with Theft in excess of $10,000, a felony.

The sheriff’s office says after receiving several inquiries regarding this matter, they have released updated information.

On Sunday, May 21, Baggott was arrested in Elko County, Nevada for charges related to the possession of a stolen vehicle. He was subsequently released.

On Monday, May 22, Baggott was arrested in Wells, Nevada for charges related to the possession of an additional stolen vehicle. Baggott is currently being held in the Elko County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

Then on Tuesday, May 23, the Williamson County State’s Attorney formally filed charges of Theft (over $10,000), a Class 2 felony. A warrant for Baggott’s arrest has been issued with a $25,000 bond.
