PADUCAH/BROOKPORT – The U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge between Paducah and Brookport is closed due to icing on the bridge decking.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet office in Paducah, moisture being carried on vehicle tires apparently stuck to the metal decking on the Illinois side, creating slick conditions.

The Brookport Bridge was closed to traffic around 6:40 Sunday night. Due to the extreme cold temperatures, it is likely to remain closed until temperatures stay above freezing for several hours.

KYTC District 1 engineers will evaluate the bridge deck from time to time and provide timely notice when the bridge is able to reopen to traffic.

Motorists should detour via the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge.
