SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – It’s going to be a bitterly cold day Monday and again Monday night.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says with temperatures only climbing into the 10 to 15 degree range today and northwest winds at 5 to 10 mph, wind chill readings will be in the zero to around -10 degree range through the morning hours across southern Illinois, and most of southwest Indiana and southeast Missouri. Much of this area may see wind chill readings a little below zero even through the afternoon.

Winds will increase a little tonight as temperatures drop back into the single digits. Wind chills in the -5 to -13 degree range will be possible for several hours very late tonight into early tomorrow morning. If you must be outside or travel, dress warmly in layers and ensure you have an emergency supply kit in case your vehicle breaks down in the extremely cold weather.
