HARRISBURG (SIC) – Southeastern Illinois College’s own Joshua Kimball, Visual and Performing Arts Specialist and lead choreographer for Studio 618, took his instruction on the road. Kimball taught 140 students on the campus of Illinois State University as part of the workshops presented at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival. The workshop, Hip Hop in Musical Theatre, explored the rising trend of hip-hop dance and how it is used on Broadway today.

At the workshop, Kimball taught “Going Gets Tough” from SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical. The choreography is the same as the recent Jr. Falcon production of the musical, which featured many area performers.

“This was a chance to feature the new dance opportunities at Southeastern to youth from all over the state,” said Kimball.

Studio 618 classes are offered to students kindergarten to senior in high school. For more information about Studio 618 and the dance offerings available to area youth at SIC, please visit www.sic.edu/childrensactivities.
